Experience the vibrant celebration of Reykjavik’s birthday at Reykjavik Culture Night, a festival that takes place every August in the heart of the city. This is the perfect opportunity to enjoy cultural activities while immersing yourself in the beauty of nature.

Since 1996, Reykjavik Culture Night, or Menningarnótt in Icelandic, has been a cherished tradition that brings together businesses, organizations, and residents to commemorate the birth of the city. With the warmest weather and the longest days of the year, the festival transforms the downtown area into a hub of excitement.

Organized by Reykjavik Culture and Tourism, the festival features a wide range of events that take over the streets. From arts and music performances to delicious food and lively parties, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Cultural institutions, including museums, take this opportunity to launch new programs and exhibitions.

As the festival’s slogan says, “come on in,” all events are free of charge, and some locals even open their homes to welcome visitors. It’s a true celebration of community and cultural exchange. And to top it all off, the night concludes with a spectacular fireworks display at the harbor, adding a touch of magic to the festivities.

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, Culture Night was canceled in 2020. However, we remain optimistic that this summer will bring better times, allowing us to once again join together and celebrate Reykjavik’s birthday with joy and enthusiasm.

If you’re planning to attend Culture Night, make sure to book your accommodation in advance. Our B&Bs, located just minutes away from Reykjavik, provide a comfortable and convenient stay, allowing you to fully enjoy the festivities. Don’t miss out on this unforgettable celebration of culture, music, and community at Reykjavik Culture Night!
